| COMMUTER SURVIVAL: bloke on CCTV trying to get on a train with a horse (horse didn't have a ticket) |
Most TOCs have certain
rules about animals on trains. Thankfully dogs etc are rare on commuting trips. This is because overcrowding would make it
cruel to animals and you would get arrested by the RSPCA. Naturally, though such inhumane (the clue is in the word) conditions
are OK for humans.
In case you wondered about taking your favourite pet on board, these are the guidelines
using direct quotations from a TOC website:
"Each passenger may take a maximum
of two animals with them, but each animal must be in its own box, pet carrier or cage which allows the animal to stand or
sit down in comfort."
This is obviously a problem if the animal is very
large. A rhinoceros say.
"Dogs may travel on a lead but no animals are allowed onto the seats. Exotic
pets may not be welcomed."
However there is no description or examples of exotic pets. This could mean
a cat with a particularly cool comb over, or perhaps something rare and weird like one of those monkeys with very pink bottoms.
"If any other passengers are uncomfortable with your pet you can be asked to move it to another part
of the train".
This seems unlikely to solve the problem.
"Railways can refuse travel
to any animal. This is usually only used if the animal is not behaving itself. If you follow these rules though and your animal
is well behaved there should be no problem."
Nowhere does it state if they need a ticket.
Survival tips Don't sit
next to anyone who brings their favourite pet on a train ever, unless of course, it's a guide dog.
